C1 Broker, an International Insurance Broker specialist in insuraning foreign residents and expatriates living in Portugal, is presenting a new contemporary art exhibition in its “C1 Broker Art Project” room at its offices in Almancil. The artist to exhibit is Thais Moretzsohn: Marine Watercolours.
In her intimate relationship with the technique, Thaís Moretzsohn classifies as “enchanting” the very movement that watercolour finds when in contact with paper. “Although I start from a photographic reference, from which I draw in pencil, as the work progresses, I feel that the stain has its own feeling and there’s a lot that I let happen naturally, the water works as it wants. Part of the watercolour technique consists of accepting that the stains, as in life, are involuntary. As in life, stains aren’t flaws or defects, they’re part of our path and you have to work to accept when they get out of control.”
But just as the material influences the work, the artist also influences her painting. “Water has its own feeling, but my feeling also alters the vibration of the water in its movement.” “Sometimes,” she explains, “the stain goes in a direction I didn’t want it to. I notice that the more I accept it, the more beautiful the work becomes. And the most beautiful works are always the lightest. And so it happens when I have the lightness to accept the involuntariness of the water.”
The exhibition is open to the public from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Conversations with the artist are possible by appointment.
